Crystal Palace and Newcastle have underwhelmed in the Premier League so far this season, with the hosts reportedly considering a managerial change if they don’t get a result here.

Match News and Current Form

Palace head coach Pierre Sage is believed to be fighting for his job after last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing by rivals Brighton, while Thursday’s Europa League 2-2 draw with Beşiktaş, in which familiar defensive frailties re-emerged, offered limited relief despite an improved display. The Eagles start the round having conceded more goals (17) and faced more shots (125) than any other team in the Premier League this term, while their Selhurst Park record offers little comfort either. Although they beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in their last outing here, Palace haven’t recorded back-to-back home league victories since April 2025, winning just six of their 25 such games since (D11, L8).

Newcastle are just one point better off than Palace in mid-table, with head coach Matthias Jaissle acknowledging his side need to improve at both ends of the pitch after losing three of their last four league fixtures (W1). He isn’t yet under anything like the same pressure as Sage, but losing their last two away league games 4-1 against Leeds and Coventry raises questions about their resilience, although they’ll have had an eight-day gap between fixtures to prepare for this trip. Few Magpies fans will be able to remember the last time they conceded at least four times in three consecutive away league games, as it occurred way back in September 1929!

Head-to-Head History

Palace have the opportunity to record consecutive league wins over Newcastle for the first time since September 1972, while they’ve lost just one of their last 11 home H2Hs (W4, D6).

Hot Stats and Streaks

Palace conceded at least twice in 11 of their last 13 Premier League games.

Palace scored first in just one of their last eight home league fixtures.

Newcastle won fewer than six corners in four of their last five Premier League matches.

Newcastle are yet to score before half-time away from home in the league this term.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Jean-Philippe Mateta netted against Beşiktaş and scored twice when Palace beat Newcastle 2-1 in April - he’s scored four times in ten league appearances against them, with all four of those goals arriving here after half-time. Harvey Barnes has five goal contributions across his last eight Newcastle appearances (G3, A2), two of those goals being the third of the game and arriving between the 35th and 50th minute.

Palace’s Jørgen Strand Larsen went off injured against Beşiktaş, a game Quinten Timber missed with a hamstring problem. Newcastle appear to have no fresh injury concerns.

Betting Analysis

As both teams have repeatedly struggled defensively this season, backing over 3.5 goals looks an attractive prospect.
