Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg are set to clash in a potentially pivotal fixture at the top of the table after both sides faced a hampered preparation due to their Thursday night European commitments.

Match News and Current Form

After coming up trumps in midweek UEFA Europa League action, Bayer Leverkusen now return to Bundesliga action in fine domestic form having picked up ten of the last 12 available points (W3, D1). That run includes consecutive victories ahead of this fixture, with Die Werkself now on the cusp of three straight league victories for the first time since October 2025. At home, Leverkusen’s honeymoon period under Carles Martínez shows no signs of ending as they’ve won all three competitive games here without conceding a goal, a feat matched only by Rudi Völler back in 2000 with Leverkusen.

Also victorious in their Thursday night European action, Freiburg now make the journey north on the back of their best-ever start to a Bundesliga season (W4, D1). Entering the round as league leaders only for the fifth time ever in the top flight, Freiburg now face a huge test to defend that position as they have failed to win any of their prior four games directly after reaching the Bundesliga summit (D3, L1). Consistency has been key to this Freiburg side, with the same starting XI named in each of their last four games leading to a club record 14 goals at this stage, but a red card for their top scorer last weekend threatens to destabilise that momentum.

Head-to-Head History

Freiburg have never had a longer winless run against Leverkusen than their current seven-game wait for a H2H victory (D3, L4). Leverkusen haven’t failed to score in any of the last 15 Bundesliga encounters anywhere and have won each of the last three at home.

Hot Stats and Streaks

Leverkusen have only lost one of their last eight games against a pre-round league leader (W2, D5).

Leverkusen have scored first in four of their five league matches (W3, D1).

Three of Freiburg’s four conceded league goals arrived before half-time.

Nine of Freiburg’s last ten league matches produced under 9.5 corners.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

After scoring in each of the opening five Bundesliga rounds, Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick could become only the third Bundesliga player ever - and the first since Robert Lewandowski in 2019/20 - to net in each of the first six of a season. Freiburg vice-captain Maximilian Eggestein has proven crucial in their strong start, scoring in three of their four league victories, with the midfielder’s goals opening the scoring on two occasions.

Leverkusen have a number of long-term absentees including Christian Kofane, while Freiburg will be without their top-scorer Yuito Suzuki (G4) through suspension.

Betting Analysis

Calling a winner here is tough, so backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is a safer play.
