Twente look to translate their stunning domestic form into their UEFA Conference League opener as they welcome a Thun side making their first main draw appearance in a European competition since 2013/14.

Match News and Current Form

Twente’s solid start to their domestic campaign continued with a 1-1 draw at the weekend, a result which means they’ve still lost just once in Eredivisie action (W5, D2) this term. That’s their highest win tally at this stage in the league since 2023/24, which should mean confidence is high ahead of their European return after a season absent. Successfully navigating the Europa League’s league phase in 2024/25, Twente will hope that some solid competitive home form (W5, L1) will help them repeat the act in the Conference League.

In stark contrast to their hosts, the reigning Swiss champions Thun have followed up their maiden top-flight national title by winning only three of their opening ten league matches this season (D1, L6). With their title defence seemingly already in tatters, many Thun fans may also be disappointed with their European qualification journey, which saw them flop out of Champions League contention into Europe’s third tier. Away from home, Thun have alternated between wins and defeats across their previous seven games (W3, L4), a trend they’ll hope to continue here after their recent 4-2 reversal in Zürich.

Head-to-Head History

This is the first H2H between the sides. Twente’s only prior meetings against Swiss opponents came back in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup as they were eliminated by Zürich (6-5 agg), while Thun have lost both of their previous H2Hs against Dutch sides, both against Ajax in the 2005/06 Champions League.

Hot Stats and Streaks

None of Twente’s last nine European home games ended goalless (W3, D2, L4).

Five of Twente’s six European matches this season produced over 2.5 goals.

Thun have conceded at least three goals in all three of their European away games this season.

Six of Thun’s last eight competitive matches produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Twente’s Wout Weghorst has contributed to goals in six of his last seven competitive matches (G5, A3), while five of his last seven goals in all competitions came beyond half-time. Four of Brighton Labeau’s six scoring appearances this season came in Thun’s European qualifiers - all of those goals arrived before half-time but only one contributed to a victory on the night.

Sondre Ørjasæter and Filip Thorvaldsen missed Twente’s last match, while Fabio Saiz is one of a short list of injury concerns for Thun.

Betting Analysis

The contrasting form between the sides cannot be ignored, and as such backing Twente to win could be the sensible play.
