There have been plenty of learning experiences for Rafael Jodar during his breakthrough 2026 season, including a recent lesson in schedule management during the US Open swing, where he played week in, week out while looking in red-hot form before suffering a first-round exit at the US Open. He now has another massive learning opportunity at the Laver Cup after being handed his debut in this year's edition, with the youngest player in Team Europe set to share the dressing room with some of the biggest names in the sport.
The young Spaniard got some timely experience in a team environment at the Davis Cup just a few days ago, right before the start of the Laver Cup. Jodar made his Davis Cup debut for Spain last weekend and delivered a dominant performance, scoring a 6-0, 6-2 win over Christian Garin. The result also helped him return to winning ways after suffering a very poor first-round exit at the US Open and gave him some valuable momentum heading into his Laver Cup campaign.
Alexander Bublik has shown a much-improved mentality and consistency in his game since the start of the 2025 season, which has helped him claim several titles over the last 20 months or so and also reach a career-high ranking of No. 10. That improvement has now earned him a call-up to the Laver Cup, where he is set to make his debut.
Bublik has extensive experience in a team setting, having played plenty of matches at the Davis Cup, where he has delivered very mixed performances, both giving his best and producing some of his more casual performances. It will therefore be interesting to see which version of Bublik turns up for this Laver Cup.
