Former semifinalist Iga Swiatek is poised to continue winning in straight sets in Wuhan as Maja Chwalinska is unlikely to pose a major challenge.

Match News and Form

Iga Swiatek zooms into just her fourth semifinal of the season, a figure that comes too late in the year by her standards, after defeating Ann Li, 6-4, 6-1. She has met only unseeded opponents, starting with lucky losers Magdalena Frech and Ashlyn Krueger, and beat all of them in straight sets.

Swiatek is all but likely to finish the season with fewer than 50 wins, something that hasn't happened since 2021. In fact, she needs to reach the Wuhan final in order to keep alive her bid to qualify for the WTA Finals, a situation she finds herself in after winning only one title in 2026, in Toronto.

Maja Chwalinska cruised into her third career semifinal and the first at WTA 1000 level after defeating former semifinalist Maria Sakkari, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5, on Friday. It follows her earlier victories over Marie Bouzkova from a set down and world No. 11 Iva Jovic in straight sets.

Chwalinska broke through after storming into the final at Roland Garros as a 114th-ranked qualifier before losing to Mirra Andreeva. She struggled to follow up her Parisian success for many weeks before reaching her first-ever hard-court semifinal in Singapore and repeating the result in Wuhan.

Head to Head

Iga Swiatek leads 1-0 after winning a long-ago 2016 ITF encounter in Stockholm, Sweden, in straight sets.

Stats and Facts

Iga Swiatek improved to 33-6 against outside-top-20 players in 2026, her worst win-loss percentage in such matches since 2021.

Swiatek has gone 1-2 in WTA 1000 semifinals this season, compared to a 1-3 such showing in 2025.

Maja Chwalinska is set to face a top-10 player for only the second time in her career after the Roland Garros final.

Chwalinska had never beaten a top-50 player on hard courts until a couple of months ago.

Betting Analysis

Iga Swiatek will have all the cards in her hand against compatriot Maja Chwalinska. She is one of the most prolific players of her generation at WTA 1000 level and is expected to venture into uncharted territory in Wuhan as well.
