Thanks to a solid performance, World No.3, Anders Antonsen booked his ticket for the quarter-final of the Super 750 tournament Singapore Open, when he beat Canadian World No. 12, Victor Lai, 27-26, 21-16 in a very hard-fought encounter.

Lai enjoyed a historic breakthrough season in 2026, reaching a career-high world ranking of No. 12 and solidifying his place among the world's elite men's singles players.

In March, Lai made a historic debut at the prestigious All England Open (Super 1000), defeating Alex Lanier, Lee Cheuk Yiu, and Koki Watanabe to reach the semifinals as the first Canadian man ever to reach the All England Men's Singles semifinals in the modern era.

Lai also revealed his promising potential in the first set against Antonsen, where he took the Dane to the brink before Antonsen prevailed in the end.

Lai made very few errors throughout the encounter, but Antonsen still seemed to have things under control in the second set and led throughout the set to secure his place in the quarter-final, where he will face the winner of Hong Yang Weng against Alex Lanier.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
