Ronald Koeman stepped down as Netherlands manager following Oranje's round-of-32 loss to Morocco, who beat the Dutch on penalties. The disappointment left Koeman with no choice but to leave.
"...It hurts that my period at Oranje ends like that," Koeman said in a post on Instagram. "We all dreamed of a World Cup in which we would write history. That didn't work out.
"No one is more disappointed about that than me. As a head coach, you carry that responsibility. I have always felt that, and I will always continue to feel that."
One name that has consistently been mentioned in discussions about the next Netherlands manager is PSV manager Peter Bosz, who signed a new contract with the club in April.
Bosz, who won the last three Eredivisie titles with PSV, has said in the past that the Netherlands job intrigues him, but refused to talk about it in an interview with ESPN.
"I can't answer that. I know absolutely nothing about that, so I can't answer that question," Bosz said after being asked whether there's any chance of him becoming the next Oranje manager.
Being mentioned in the discussions did appeal to Bosz, however: "I look at it from a distance; it's all good and well. I've started at PSV again with great joy. I get that there’s a debate going on, but I’ll leave that to the people who are having it.
It's always fun to hear that I'm being mentioned, but nothing more than that."
