The Colorado Avalanche took a 2-0 series lead over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night after Nicolas Roy scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

It was a major goalie battle as Scott Wedgewood and Anton Forsberg combined for 58 saves. The series will now head to Los Angeles for Game 3 (April 23rd) and Game 4 (April 26th).

Recap & Highlights

This game didn't have a goal until under seven minutes left in the third, but that didn't mean it wasn't short of excitement.

Things got heated early on after a full-out brawl ensued halfway through the first period as Brett Kulak (COL) and Mikey Anderson (LA) both got sent to the sin bin.

After neither team scored in the first, Quinton Byfield had a penalty shot opportunity to put the Kings up 1-0.

But Wedgewood made a stunning save as he stretched out with the glove to deny Byfield, keeping it scoreless.

He became just the second goalie in Avs history to make a save on a penalty shot during the playoffs, joining Philipp Grubauer (2019).

The save sent Avs fans into such a frenzy that fans behind the Kings bench broke the glass, causing a delay.

Nobody on the Kings' bench was hurt as a result of the broken glass. Play would resume shortly after a crew put in a piece of replacement glass.

Colorado had a brief power play before Nathan MacKinnon received a two-minute minor for interference as the game went to a 4-on-4 for almost a full two minutes.

The first goal of the game wouldn't come until late in the third when the Los Angeles Kings went on the power play.

Artemi Panarin would score his second goal of the playoffs to give the Kings a 1-0 lead with 6:56 left. It was Panarin's first shot on net throughout the entire game, while both of his goals in these playoffs came on the power play.

The goal gave the Kings their first lead of the series at that point.

After being a brick wall throughout the entire game, Kings goaltender Anton Forsberg would eventually let one by shortly after his own team's first goal.

Much like Panarin, Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog scored on his first shot on net to make it 1-1 with under three minutes left in the third en route to an overtime win.
