SG Flensburg-Handewitt are leading the way in the German Handball-Bundesliga (HBL). The still-unbeaten leaders won 39-32 (20-16) at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf to move top of the table ahead of reigning champions SC Magdeburg despite the fact that German international Justus Fischer left the court injured shortly before half-time.

The pivot received treatment on his left thigh at the side of the court for several minutes before disappearing into the tunnel. Fischer is also considered a certain starter for Germany at the 2027 home World Cup. Fewer than 100 days remain until the tournament opener against Tunisia in Munich on 13 January.

Regardless of the key personnel issue, Hannover struggled throughout against Flensburg. The home side got off to a poor start, and trailed 9-17 after 22 minutes no less thanks to the outstanding Flensburg goalkeeper Simon Möller, who made ten saves in the first half.

Flensburg's Aymeric Minne was the game's top goalscorer with 12 goals from 14 attempts. Simon Pytlick, Emil Bergholt, and Marko Grgic contributed five goals each, while Emil Jakobsen settled for four.
