The Danish rider Mikkel Honoré was involved in a horrible crash during the Heistse Pijl one-day race in Belgium on Saturday.

Now the sports director of EF Education-EasyPost, Ken Vanmarcke, has spoken about the severity of his injuries to Dutch media WielerFlits:

"He crashed very violently and is still in the hospital's intensive care unit. Mikkel is stable, but he has broken seven ribs, three vertebrae, and his collarbone. He has also suffered a punctured lung. It is a serious injury, and it will be a long rehabilitation", he says.

The 29-year-old Dane's teammate, Noah Hobbs, won the race shortly after the violent crash, but according to the sports director, it was difficult to celebrate the victory.

"Ten minutes later, our young talent Noah Hobbs won the race. But you can't celebrate if someone is moaning in pain,' says Ken Vanmarcke.

Mikkel Honoré has raced for EF Education - EasyPost since 2021.
