The eighth match of the 2026 Delhi Premier League went viral on social media for the barely believable circumstances in which Himmat Singh, captain of the fielding side New Delhi Tigers, unintentionally went from villain to hero for his side in a matter of milliseconds.
Chasing side Outer Delhi Warriors, featuring Indian internationals Priyansh Arya and Navdeep Saini, were pursuing a DLS target of 156 in a rain-affected 15-over Tuesday night match and needed one run off the final ball to win.
Outer Delhi number ten Pratham Saluja, facing his first and only ball of the match following the run-out of his captain Siddant Sharma, managed to dig out a yorker towards mid-off before setting off for a very unlikely winning run.
29-year-old Himmat, who has played more than 150 professional games in India including nine at IPL level for Lucknow Super Giants, fumbled the collect close to the stumps before lashing out at the ball in frustration with his boot whilst teammates were seen pleading with him to make a second effort.
His angry kick of the ball ran Pratham out by inches to send the game into a Super Over, with some of Himmat's colleagues unable to contain their laughter.
New Delhi's joy was shortlived as Himmat, who scored 61 from just 25 balls in the first innings, followed up a first-ball six with a second-ball dismissal as his team were bowled out for 6 in the Super Over chasing 21.
Outer Delhi's 20 Super Over runs all came off the bat of Player of the Match Monu Shukla, who spearheaded the back-end of the run chase with eight boundaries in a 17-ball 45.
