The Philadelphia Flyers shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 during Monday's matchup as they now take a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the playoffs.

Teams that win the first two playoff games on the road go on to win the series 80% of the time (90-22). The Flyers are 18-0 when leading 2-0 in a best-of-seven playoff series.

Philly didn't record a single shutout all season until now, as goalie Dan Vladar recorded his first playoff shutout after putting up 27 saves. He also finished with the highest player rating (8.8) of any player.

Vladar became just the second Flyers goalie to record a shutout against the Penguins in the playoffs, the first being Martin Biron in 2009.

The series will now head back to Philly for Game 3 and Game 4.

Recap & Highlights

After Philly's Tyson Foerster committed the first penalty of the game, Pittsburgh's Erik Karlsson would get rung up 47 into their power play for a minor tripping penalty as it went to a 4-on-4.

With 11 seconds left on the 4-on-4, Philly committed another penalty after Rasmus Ristolainen was called for roughing for swinging at Sidney Crosby's head.

After that penalty was killed off by the Flyers, Nick Seeler would commit a roughing penalty as they went back on the PK right away.

Pittsburgh would finish the first period putting up only two shots on goal despite having three power play opportunities - they would go on to 25 in the next two periods combined.

It wouldn't be until 6:21 left in the second that the Flyers would be the ones to score the first goal after going nearly eight minutes without a shot on net.

Game 1 hero and 19-year-old Porter Martone would put the Flyers up 1-0 with his second goal of the series.

He became the first teenager in Flyers history to score in each of his first two playoff games and the only the 12th to do so all-time.

After the Flyers would find themselves in their fourth penalty kill situation of the night, it wouldn't faze them as they would get on the board while short-handed.

Garnet Hathaway would score his fourth career postseason goal thanks to a disgusting assist from Owen Tippett to make it 2-0.

It was just Hathaway's second goal all year, with his only one during the regular season coming back in January against the Tampa Bay Lightning

His short-handed goal became the first of any Flyers player since Valtteri Filppula did the same in Game 5, also against the Penguins in the first round, exactly eight years ago today.

During the regular season, the Penguins gave up the second-most shorthanded goals of any team with 12 (Avalanche - 13).

Despite the score, Pittsburgh had a much better period on the forecheck as both teams finished with 12 shots on goal. Still, heading into the third period of Game 2, the Penguins were 0-for-6 on the power play.

It would go on to be 0-for-7 after they failed on their fifth power play of Game 2.

Luke Glendening would put the final nail in the coffin to make it 3-0 as the Flyers move to just two more wins away from advancing.

After a rough start, Pittsburgh would outshoot Philly 27-22, while Philly would outhit the Pens 48-31. The Flyers would also put up a whopping 23 blocked shots to Pittsburgh's eight.

Game 3 will be on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
