World Cup 2026
The 2026 World Cup was held from June 11th to July 19th in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament featured 48 national teams and was played in 16 modern stadiums.

00:22 BST - England manager Thomas Tuchel has given his reaction to their chaotic win over France.
"We had a brilliant first half and then a turbulent second half," he said. "You could see the difference of what one day makes and the difference in the schedule. We are so, so tired and drained from the last weeks.
"So a massive compliment and full respect - the mentality that we showed. Going through all the adversity is absolutely brilliant.
"I was afraid of the physical demands of the match. We know the quality and speed of France, and they have much less schedule for them. It was less demanding.
"They had one more day in-between the semi-final to digest, and they had way less travel distances than us.
"We played in the heat, at altitude. I was worried physically. You could see it in the second half, the cramps and all the tiredness, but I was never worried about the mentality.
"I have said it before, this team has created something very special, and they showed it again."
00:20 BST - England hat-trick goalscorer Bukayo Saka has been speaking to BBC Sport.
"It was a crazy, crazy game. We're both still quite disappointed to not be in the final but it was about finishing strong and for us giving the country the best finish in the World Cup in 60 years, so we're happy with the final result.
"I think the first half went for us. We won the first half, they won the second half and in the end we got the two goals to win the game, so I'd say that's how the game went."
Asked whether he felt he should have played more minutes, he added: "Of course I would love to have played more but it's too late to talk about that. I try to do my talking on the pitch and it's done now, move on."

23:20 BST - England are on the ropes. Ousmane Dembele thumps the ball at goal which Dean Henderson saves.

23:18 BST - GOAL! Pick that one out! France have scored twice in six minutes. Kylian Mbappe passes to Bradley Barcola who runs in on goal and thrashes the ball past Dean Henderson. 2-4
23:15 BST - Adrien Rabiot thumps the ball high and wide.
23:12 BST - GOAL! England lose the ball and now it's France's time to break. The ball is threaded through to Kylian Mbappe in the area and he slots the ball past Dean Henderson at the first time of asking to reduce the deficit and move clear in the race for the Golden Boot. 4-1
23:08 BST - We're back underway.
Ollie Watkins comes on for Marcus Rashford for England while France make several changes: Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Digne, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele come on for Ibrahima Konate, Theo Hernandez, Desire Doue and Rayan Cherki.
22:51 BST - HALF-TIME! Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and two goals from Bukayo Saka give England a commanding lead at the break.
22:47 BST - GOAL! Bukayo Saka collects the ball from Eberechi Eze and lashes home from the edge of the area to make it 4-0.
England have been utterly dominant. They have scored four goals in a World Cup game for the first time since they faced Croatia in the group stage, which they won 4-2.
22:44 BST - There will be four minutes of time added on at the end of the first half.
22:41 BST - The last time England scored three goals in a World Cup was against Mexico in the round of 16. That seems a lifetime ago.
22:38 BST - GOAL! Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford charge through on goal with the French team in the England half. Mike Maignan does well to drag Saka wide and save from Rashford, before Saka has another chance that he slams home. It's officially a rout. 3-0.
22:36 BST - Fantastic effort from Kylian Mbappe who dribbles into the England box before having a shot at goal that's saved by a diving Dean Henderson.
22:30 BST - Kylian Mbappe is through on goal but a combination of Dean Henderson and Marc Guehi see the ball wide. The goal would have been disallowed for offside, but France are looking dangerous.
22:24 BST - Kylian Mbappe has a crack at goal and it fizzes wide.
22:20 BST - GOAL! As easy as 1-2-3. Declan Rice whips in a corner and Ezri Konsa jumps highest to head the ball into the corner beyond Mike Maignan. 2-0.
England have scored seven first-half goals in the tournament so far, only the United States (eight) have scored more in this World Cup.
22:12 BST - NO GOAL! Bukayo Saka cuts inside and fires a lovely shot past Mike Maignan to double England's lead, but the goal is ruled out for offside.
22:07 BST - Great start by England as they pile forward and Marcus Rashford's deflected shot goes wide.
22:03 BST - GOAL! England captain for the day Declan Rice collects the ball on the halfway line and charges forward. The French defenders back off and Rice fires home from outside the area. It's a fantastic goal and the Three Lions are up and running once again. 1-0.

21:56 BST - And for the final time at the World Cup, the English and French national anthems are played.
21:52 BST - The players are in the tunnel. We are less than 10 minutes away from kick-off.
21:39 BST - It's another hot and humid afternoon in Miami, with temperatures hovering around 32 degrees and 70% humidity.
21:30 BST - Both teams are making their final preparations for the match. Kick-off is 30 minutes away.
21:19 BST - England striker Ivan Toney has been speaking to BBC Sport and said he wants to prove that he should have been selected more often.
Toney played one minute during the tournament - coming off the bench against Argentina in the sixth minute of injury time.
"It has been tough. Obviously, we all thought it was the one, but unfortunately it wasn't," he said. "We have to regroup, and we have to pick ourselves up and try to finish the tournament on a high.
"I have always been hungry for this opportunity. It was frustrating. I only got a few minutes, but that is how football goes sometimes.
"Now is my chance to prove I should have got more minutes. There's a lot of goals in the team and on the bench.
"Hopefully, we can bring goals, and hopefully we can finish the tournament on a win."
21:05 BST - Kylian Mbappe is currently behind Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot on assists, with both players scoring eight goals in the tournament so far.
Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have scored six goals each, so both players will need to come off the bench and score a hat-trick in order to stand a chance in taking home the coveted prize.

20:40 BST - The team news has dropped, and both sides have made seven changes from their semi-final exits - a record for both teams, with neither side making so many changes from one match to another in a World Cup previously.
For England, Dean Henderson, Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Ivan Toney, and Marcus Rashford come in for John Stones, Anthony Gordon, Jordan Pickford, Elliot Anderson, Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, and Reece James.
While for France, Didier Deschamps brings in Malo Gusto, Théo Hernández, Ibrahima Konaté, Maxence Lacroix, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Rayan Cherki and Désiré Doué for William Saliba, who is injured, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Digne, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Jules Koundé.
19:42 BST - When the two sides met last time, France won 2-1 in the quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup. Aurélien Tchouaméni opened the scoring for France in the 17th minute before Harry Kane equalised from the spot after half-time.
France re-took the lead from Olivier Giroud before Kane missed a late penalty as England crashed out of the tournament.
