Danish international key defender Mette Tranborg has informed national team coach Helle Thomsen that she will not be available for selection for the European Championship this coming winter.

She has revealed the news to TV 2 Sport.

Mette Tranborg missed last year's World Championship due to injury but returned to the national team squad in March. However, the 30-year-old right back says that not being part of the national team has worked well for her.

"Being an elite athlete is generally demanding, and I have thrived in that environment. But over time, I’ve realized that—given where I am in my career and my life right now—it works well for me to have a lighter workload, spend a little less time on handball, and have a bit more surplus energy as a result," says Mette Tranborg.

The right back has played 130 international matches for the senior national team.
