Paris Saint-Germain are now one point from sealing a fifth successive Ligue 1 title thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over Brest, who are now winless in seven league games (D2, L5).

Having progressed to a second successive UEFA Champions League final, Luis Enrique made nine changes to the starting lineup that faced Bayern Munich in the week, placing faith in PSG’s fringe players to edge them closer to the league title.

Lucas Hernandez was the first to go close for the hosts, forcing an excellent save from Gregoire Coudert, who was at full stretch to tip over a rifled effort from range.

The hosts continued to push for an opener as 18-year-old Dro Fernaandez bent a strike narrowly wide, shortly before Raphael Le Guen’s timely intervention prevented Goncalo Ramos from tapping in Lee Kang-in’s inviting low cross.

At the other end, Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe saw his close-range shot thwarted by Renato Marin – making just his second Ligue 1 appearance – although an offside in the build-up ensured a would-be goal wouldn’t have counted.

That was as close as Brest came to breaking the first-half deadlock, as a lengthy tech-related interruption took the sting out of the contest.

On the bench, Matvei Safonov was pouring water on the PSG staff, underlining the hosts’ relaxed nature as yet another stoppage halted the start of the second period.

Ramos threatened with a header that sailed over after the contest got back underway, and with an hour played, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele joined Desire Doue on the pitch as Enrique searched for a spark.

And they couldn’t have come any closer to edging ahead without doing so, as Senny Mayulu clattered the underside of the crossbar and the inside of the post with a fierce strike from the edge of the box.

Eventually, though, the hosts made the breakthrough as Doue drilled a low effort past Coudert with 82 minutes on the clock.

That goal was enough for PSG to see out all three points, leaving Brest with just one win in their last 11 away games (D3, L7).

PSG are now unbeaten in 34 consecutive H2Hs (W26, D8), marking their longest ever run against any opponent. Armed with a six-point cushion and a far superior GD, Les Parisiens can officially secure the Ligue 1 title against second-placed Lens on Wednesday in the penultimate game of their domestic season.
