Home hero Max Verstappen crashed out of the opening lap of the last Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

Max Verstappen started from seventh place in the Dutch Grand Prix. Immediately after the start, which started on time despite rain showers in the hour before lights out, the Dutchman was momentarily on the grass after starting on the wet side of the track, but later regained his place ahead of his fighting teammate, Liam Lawson.

Upon exiting the Arie Luyendijkbocht, the final corner of the track, Verstappen dove too deep down in the banked turn. The Red Bull driver drove on the wet white line and lost control, crashing into the barriers before safely exiting the destroyed car.

Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto committed the same mistake, but got away unscathed by saving his car mid-spin.

The race was halted with a red flag and paused for 30 minutes as marshals cleared the track of debris.

The Dutch Grand Prix is held for the last time on Sunday, with the contract between Formula One Management and Circuit Zandvoort not extended beyond 2026.
