Philadelphia Phillies All-Star pitcher Cristopher Sanchez struck out a career-high 13 batters in his first complete-game shutout of the season during Saturday's win against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sanchez, 29, didn't allow a single walk and only six hits (four singles), bringing his season earned run average down to a stellar 1.82 - the best among all National League starters.

This now marks Sanchez's second-ever complete game shutout.

The 2025 NL Cy Young runner-up is continuing where he left off last season. His 80 strikeouts are tied with Milwaukee Brewers young ace Jacob Misiorowski for the most in all of baseball, while his 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings are also a career-high.

In 2025, Sanchez tossed a 2.50 ERA with a career-best 212 strikeouts through 202 innings, allowing just 44 walks and 171 hits.

Philly made sure to reward Sanchez for his career year, giving him a six-year, $107 million extension in the offseason. The Phillies are now rebounding after a tough start to the season. They sit at 23-23, second in the National League East behind the MLB's best Atlanta Braves (31-16).
