Wolves have been mathematically relegated to the Championship following West Ham’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

West Ham's victory lifts them to 33 points, moving them further ahead of the drop zone, and leaves Wolves on 17 points, 18 adrift of safety. With just five matches left, it's not possible for Rob Edwards' side to amass enough points to finish higher than 18th.

As a result, they'll return to the Championship after eight years in the top flight, suffering their first relegation since 2012.

They initially enjoyed a huge amount of success after being promoted to the Premier League in 2018, finishing seventh in their first season back.

Another seventh-place finish and a Europa League semi-final followed in 2019/20, but as they lost more and more key players to top clubs, they began to finish firmly in the bottom half of the league.

They then found themselves at the very bottom at the start of this season after losing their first five matches, and it was clear by the halfway point of the campaign that their time in the division was over, with them failing to win any of their first 19 league matches.

Things improved after Vitor Pereira was replaced by Rob Edwards, but the side from the Midlands never looked like pulling off a miraculous escape.

Tottenham cut further adrift

West Ham's point at Selhurst Park was also bad news for Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham,

They looked set to move out of the bottom three at the weekend when they led Brighton heading into stoppage time, but a late equaliser for the Seagulls left them in 18th.

Spurs then fell further behind in the fight for survival when Nottingham Forest came from behind to beat Burnley,

Now, they trail the Hammers by two points and Nottingham Forest by five, with each of the three sides having five more matches to play.
