Hacken's defeat to Vasteras earlier in the round had left the door open for Djurgarden to reclaim third place, needing to beat a Mjallby side who beat Sirius to end their winless league run but had suffered an away defeat to Salzburg in midweek.
The home side took full advantage of their opponents heavy legs and were 3-0 up with only 26 minutes played - the dominance began in the fifth minute, when Bo Hegland's ball forward cut the Mjallby defence apart and Kristian Lien lifted the ball over the advancing Robin Wallinder and tapped into the empty net.
Lien then made it two for himself less than 10 minutes later, as Wallinder failed to gather Jeppe Okkels deflected cross-cum-shot and the striker was on hand to feed off the scraps. Hegland then notched his second assist, albeit with a simple ball to Patric Aslund, who powered the ball into the bottom corner from over 25 yards.
The match had been over as a contest for some time when Djurgarden added their fourth with three minutes to play - Alexander Andersson took down a ball over the top superbly and squared for Oskar Fallenius, who got in front of his man to steer it home.
The Iron Stoves have won two in a row without conceding while 12th-placed Mjallby have lost three of their last four, and perhaps the worst news for the reigning champions is the reverse fixture will be played in four days time (3rd September).
Successive losses and one point from their last three games had threatened to derail Sirius' season, though AIK did them a favour on Sunday 30th by beating second-placed Hammarby. However, the leaders failed to take advantage, losing at home to Malmo, who climb to seventh.

The dominance continued at the midpoint in the second half, this time Niklasson was the provider, floating in a cross which Samuel Salter headed down and into the bottom corner, and 10 minutes later the GAIS cake was iced in real style, when Max Andersson rifled the ball into the top corner from just outside the area. GAIS climb above Brommapojkarna into ninth and sit six points shy of the European places.
