FC Utrecht are having their worst start to an Eredivisie season in club history, having gathered just four points from the opening six rounds. Anthony Correia's squad were hoping for the best in Rotterdam, where Feyenoord awaited them one week after their 7-0 win over PEC Zwolle.
All hopes of a good start flew out the window when Anis Hadj Moussa and Nacho Ferri put Feyenoord up two goals in the opening ten minutes - Hadj Moussa was left completely unchallenged as he dribbled from the halfway line to the six-yard box, where he stuck the ball into the bottom corner, just three minutes before Nacho Ferri fired a cross from Spanish compatriot Mika Marmol past Barkas.
FC Utrecht's efforts were hampered by an injury to top scorer Artem Stepanov, who received his maiden Ukraine call-up but came off in tears after half an hour's play.
The match was all but over before the break, with Anis Hadj Moussa bagging a brace after 33 minutes with a carbon copy of his opener, dribbling across the opponents' half before being left completely untouched as he beat Barkas at his near post again.
A handball by Niklas Vesterlund put FC Utrecht in an even worse spot just after half-time, giving Feyenoord captain Luciano Valente the chance to give Feyenoord a four-goal lead, which he did by beating Barkas to the bottom corner.
A rare opportunity for FC Utrecht was squashed by Tsuyoshi Watanabe, who kept Dani de Wit from scoring after Tjark Ernst could not clear a cross properly. The visitors were kept goalless again by Ernst, who stopped a shot and saw Yoann Cathline miss the rebound.
Gjivai Zechiel continues his excellent form with an assist, setting Gaoussou Diarra up for his first Feyenoord goal with a shot in the far corner.
Sem Steijn got one more chance to give Feyenoord a record win over FC Utrecht, but the former Eredivisie top scorer couldn't convert on a low and fast cross from Givairo Read, which landed just behind the midfielder.
Feyenoord entered the XL international break swinging with 7-0 and 5-1 wins, putting them confidently in the race for the top spot. FC Utrecht, meanwhile, head into the break with the worst defensive record in the league, having conceded 24 goals in seven games as they sit in 15th.
