Chelsea back Liam Rosenior as European qualification hopes hang by a thread

Chelsea are continuing to back head coach Liam Rosenior despite a worrying slump that is putting their European hopes in serious danger.

A 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend leaves Chelsea sixth in the Premier League, level on 48 points with both Brentford and Bournemouth just behind them.

The pressure is intensifying further, with Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton close on 47 points, while Sunderland remain within touching distance on 46.

What once looked like a push for Champions League qualification is now turning into a fight just to secure any form of European football.

Chelsea have lost their last four league matches, and another defeat when they face Brighton today (Tuesday) would leave them under severe pressure heading into the final stretch of the season.

For now, the message from Chelsea is clear that Rosenior retains the club’s backing. However, there is growing uncertainty over whether that support will hold if results do not improve quickly.

There is still a potential bright spot as victory over Leeds United this weekend would send Chelsea into the FA Cup final and keep hopes of silverware alive.

But the overall picture remains precarious and Rosenior, who signed a six-year deal upon arrival at Stamford Bridge, already has his long-term vision under threat.

While club officials are keen to shield their head coach from added pressure during this decisive period, sources close to the situation suggest that, should the downturn continue, a change of boss at the end of the season is very likely.
