One of the transfer scrambles of the summer could be about to intensify once again, with the news that Man City are prepared to integrate Lille's Moroccan midfield talent, Ayyoub Bouaddi, into their first-team squad, rather than loaning him straight back to the Ligue 1 outfit.

With Bernardo Silva having already left the club and Rodri's future still a matter of discussion until he clarifies his position after the World Cup final, City need to move quickly to ensure that any midfield rebuild doesn't overshadow Enzo Maresca's pre-season plans.

Bouaddi offered immmediate first-team pathway

Elliot Anderson had already been secured, of course, suggesting that Rodri could indeed be on his way out of the club, and for the 18-year-old Bouaddi, the knowledge that he could be handed an immediate pathway into City's starting XI could well oil the wheels of the transfer in the coming days.

Albeit long-term admirers, Arsenal and other suitors, Chelsea, are also reported to be prepared to consider a similar arrangement to City.

To give context to how important each of the Premier League giants believes the player will be over the coming years, a transfer fee in the region of £85m has been mooted.

Bouaddi certainly didn't disappoint in the World Cup, starting five of Morocco's six matches, and if anything, he only enhanced his credentials.

Wonderful technical ability

A player with wonderful technical abilities, he's also more than capable of handling the physical side of the game.

In the English top-flight, that's a vital part of any midfielder's armoury.

Having only made his professional debut in October 2023 at 16 years and three days old, Bouaddi's rise has been a meteoric one to say the least.

The 87 games played in all competitions for the French side are the third most of any player since the talented teen made his debut, with only Hakon Haraldsson (110) and Benjamin Andre (112) making more appearances in the same time frame.

Unusually in one so young, Bouaddi thrives upon taking responsibility in possession and setting the tempo, and his 87.49% pass completion rate is also one of the best in a squad packed with experience.

Drive and purpose

In terms of how positive he remains when in control of the ball, the midfielder's 749 forward passes see him easily inside the top 10 in Lille's squad in this regard.

There's a drive and purpose to his natural game that generally isn't found in players of such a young age, though Bouaddi himself will point to his learned experience over almost three full seasons already, and the footballing education he's enjoyed, as reason enough to be supremely confident in his own, enviable abilities.

That dynamism in possession is a sight to behold, and being over six feet tall, the 18-year-old is incredibly difficult to knock off the ball.

It's worth acknowledging, too, that the 607 one-on-one duels attempted by Bouaddi since his debut have only been improved upon by four more experienced teammates, and a 54.2% success in those duels is on par with others.

Ferocious will to win

55 aerial duels won from 107 contested might sound like an average return until you realise that just a handful of colleagues have bettered Bouaddi's output once again, whilst 334 ball recoveries certainly isn't to be sniffed at either.

A ferocious will to win is arguably what marks him out amongst his contemporaries, and that can most notably be seen with regard to his tackling. Not one to shirk from the opportunity of direct combat with an opponent, 155 attempted is the second most in the Lille squad.

When packaged together with his output in other areas of his game, it becomes abundantly clear why £85m might eventually seem to be a steal for a player that's really going places.

With Anderson potentially sat alongside him in a new-look midfield for City, and also taking into account the England international's industry, the serial Premier League winners would be incredibly difficult to break down.

City must move quickly

Moreover, both Anderson and Bouaddi are more than capable of driving forward at pace when the need arises and demonstrating their capabilities as a supplementary attacking force.

From Maresca's point of view, City will clearly need to move quickly if they want to secure the youngster's services.

With the best years of his career still ahead of him, the step up in quality could suit him and, consequently, his new employers.

It isn't fanciful, therefore, to suggest that he could be the fulcrum and conduit through which much of City's play comes, which is some compliment for a player not out of his teens for another 15 months.
