Former AGF-midfielder Jens Jonsson returns to play for the reigning Danish champions, AGF, as he has joined the Aarhus club on a free transfer from AEK Athens.

AGF confirm on their website that Jonsson now returns "home" to the club he left just under ten years ago.

"It is a day of joy for me – both as a footballer and as a person," the midfielder himself says:

"After my family and I decided to return to Denmark, I’ve had only had one goal: To wear the white jersey again and contribute to further success for AGF."

The parties have signed a two-year contract.

Jens Jonsson last played for AGF in August 2016, when he left for the Turkish club Konyaspor. Since then, he has also had stints with Cádiz in Spain and, most recently, AEK Athens in Greece.

Now at 33 years old, he emphasizes that he is eager to prove himself: "I am still extremely hungry and have a lot to prove after a difficult final season in Greece," he says:

"I’m coming home with valuable experience and am naturally a different player than when I left; I hope I can contribute to another successful season for the AGF team that performed so well last year."

Reigning champions AGF will kickstart their new Danish Superliga season on 25 July against Brondby
