Brobbey was forced off in the 35th minute of Thursday's UEFA Nations League game against Germany with a muscle injury. Xavi confirmed in a post-match interview that the Sunderland striker would not play in this international break again and that he would call up a replacement.
On Friday, the KNVB confirmed that Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee would replace Brobbey. Zirkzee had not been with the Dutch national team since Euro 2024, when he played four minutes for Oranje against England and Turkey.
The 25-year-old has tallied just 20 Premier League minutes for the Red Devils this season, coming on late in the games against Manchester City and Fulham.
The Netherlands continue their UEFA Nations League campaign on Sunday, when they'll face Serbia in Belgrade. Oranje will travel to Greece after, before hosting Serbia in Eindhoven for the last game of this international break.

The UEFA Nations League 2026/27 is contested by the national teams of 54 of UEFA's member associations. They're divided into four leagues based on the rankings of the previous edition, with Leagues A, B, and C featuring sixteen teams each, divided into four groups of four, while League D features six teams divided into two groups of three. It begins in September 2026, with the finals in June 2027.
