The former Ghana coach joins a star-studded panel of football legends tasked with analysing every match at the tournament in North America.

Otto Addo has been handed a prestigious role at the 2026 FIFA World Cup not in the dugout, but in one of football's most influential analytical roles.

FIFA has confirmed that the former Ghana head coach will serve as a member of the Technical Study Group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, joining a distinguished panel of football legends whose task it is to analyse the tournament.

Addo joins a remarkable group of football personalities on the 2026 TSG. His fellow panellists include Swiss goalkeeping legend Pascal Zuberbühler, Northern Ireland manager and experienced football thinker Michael O'Neill, and former Argentina and Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta.

Brazilian World Cup winner and midfield great Gilberto Silva is also part of the group, as is former Denmark striker and current manager Jon Dahl Tomasson, and Costa Rican legend Paulo Wanchope.

American football icon Tobin Heath, former Borussia Dortmund and Netherlands midfielder Aron Winter, former Germany and USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann, and Jayne Ludlow, the experienced Welsh football figure and former Arsenal Ladies manager.

The German-born Ghanaian coach guided the Black Stars to back-to-back FIFA World Cup qualifications.

However, following back-to-back defeats in the March international window, the Ghana Football Association took the difficult decision to relieve Addo of his duties. Carlos Queiroz was subsequently appointed as Ghana's new head coach ahead of the World Cup.

Now, rather than watching the tournament from the sidelines, Addo has a front-row seat in the most analytical role available in world football.

He is expected to analyse every single match played at the tournament, assessing tactics, team structures, set-pieces, transitions, pressing systems and, increasingly, performance data. A key part of his responsibilities will be to identify the key trends that will shape the direction of global football in the years that follow.

The TSG's findings are published in detailed FIFA Technical Reports, which are distributed as coaching resources worldwide and are used by federations, coaches and academies across every continent.

He will also have a say in awarding the tournament's most prestigious individual honours, including the Golden Ball for the best player, the Golden Boot for the top scorer, the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper and the Best Young Player award.

During the tournament that spans from June 11 to July 19, Addo will be watching matches that include his former side's campaign in Group L, offering his expertise on trends and structures across the entire tournament rather than the fortunes of a single team.
