Sweden have named 18-year-old Michael Odinks in their 14-man squad for their two significant 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers later this month.

Odinks, who is enjoying a breakout season in the Swedish league for Norrkoping Dolphins, has been called up to the senior squad for the first time, having previously featured for Sweden at under-18 level.

The 198cm-tall teenager will have the chance to make his full debut against Hungary on 27th November in Stockholm and against France on 30th November in Dijon.

Sweden currently sit fifth in the six-team group in the final stage of European qualification for next year's World Cup, but are level on 12 points with third-placed Slovenia, with the top three advancing to Qatar for the tournament next September.

With Hungary also sitting on 12 points, the home match at Avicii Arena could go a long way to deciding who takes one of those top three places, and Sweden will be under extra pressure to perform knowing they must go to group leaders France three days later. The final two rounds of qualifiers will be played in February 2027.

Sweden are among the teams who will have to make do without NBA talent, as the Miami Heat's Pelle Larsson will not be available, but further disappointment for Blagult came with the news that captain Ludvig Hakanson will not feature either - the Joventut Badalona player has been ruled out with a foot injury.

The Sweden squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers:

Denzel Andersson, Zaba Bangala, Simon Birgander, Tobias Borg, Wilhelm Falk, Viktor Gaddefors, Gustav Hansson, Bobi Klintman, Barra Njie, Michael Odinks, Oskar Palmquist, Melwin Pantzar, Kenny Pohto
