It is that time of the year again when Flashscore editors put a team together based on the highest average ratings from the biggest leagues in the world over the course of the 2025/26 season. And this time out, the team with the highest ratings is packed with world-class stars - especially in a forward line that would terrify opposition defenders.

As with our regular Team of the Week, we have chosen the following XI using our in-house player rating system.

To select the side, we took the players with the best average match ratings from the top leagues around the world that have concluded. That is, ongoing leagues were not considered. What's more, cup and continental competitions were also not included.

To qualify for the team, players had to earn at least 25 match ratings in the 2025/26 campaign. It should be noted that appearances of less than 10 minutes do not generate a match rating.

Here is our 2025/26 Team of the Season:

Goalkeeper

Daniel Batz (Mainz) 7.3

The beauty of our Team of the Season is that players like Daniel Batz can make the cut despite probably not being on the radar of many. But the stats don't lie, and they tell a story of a keeper who has played a critical role in his side's impressive top 10 Bundesliga finish.

Although he had other heroic performances throughout the season, Batz left his best performance of the season to Metz's final game of the campaign, making five saves and scoring a brilliant 9.1 rating to help Metz to a 2-0 win away at Heidenheim.

Aside from a few games where Metz collectively struggled and consequently Batz's rating dropped, the reliable number one consistently scored seven or above in a season to remember.

Defenders

Jan Bednarek (Porto) 7.5

Bednarek's career has had a resurgence in Portugal. The centre-back had a season to remember at the heart of Porto's defence and at both ends of the pitch. As well as being Mr Reliable at the back, Bednarek scored four goals from defence, which is far from bad going.

The highlight of Bednarek's season came when he scored the only goal of the game as Porto defeated arch-rivals Benfica 1-0 at the start of 2026.

Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund) 7.8

Over to the Bundesliga and if you thought Bednarek's goal contributions were impressive for a centre-back, then Schlotterbeck's five goals and one assist in the Bundesliga are even more noteworthy. But whilst the German defender is a danger from set pieces, he is a world-class player for a lot more than just his aerial ability.

Schlotterbeck's stats are impressive across the board, but he really comes into his own with the ball at his feet. His trademark pass is his ability to play a pinpoint long ball into attacking players, or his effortless switch of play. An 80% success rate when switching the play, 86% total passing accuracy and almost 700 forward passes over the campaign is proof of his passing ability.

Federico Dimarco (Inter) 7.7

Dimarco has gained a reputation as being one of the best wing-backs in world football, and the 2025/26 season was another masterclass in attacking output from the Inter left wing-back.

Dimarco played a critical role in Inter's title-winning campaign with 18 assists and seven goals, which is a staggering 25 goal contributions from wing-back.

Although Dimarco had many standout performances for Inter this season, assisting the first three goals in a 5-0 thrashing of Sassuolo in February is an obvious high point in a brilliant individual season.

Midfielders

Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) 8.4

Lamine Yamal might not have reached the heights of a remarkable 2024/25 campaign, but the Barcelona superstar was still outrageously good in 2025/26. And in the eyes of our database, Lamine Yamal was the best player in Europe this season.

Sixteen goals and 11 assists in LaLiga for a combined 27 goal contributions is the best return of Lamine's career so far in the Spanish top flight. It is impressive stats, and what is noticeable is how many more goals he is scoring now. The confidence in the final third to go at it alone and find one of the four corners with pinpoint accuracy is a facet of Lamine's game that hasn't always been there.

And if you don't believe the basic numbers, just take a look at Lamine's attacking numbers versus forwards in the top five European leagues... Staggering.

Joey Veerman (PSV) 8.1

Joey Veerman is something of a Flashscore Team of the Week legend, and it is no surprise to see him make the Team of the Season after an incredibly consistent 2025/26 campaign.

In addition to his strong all-round game, for a central midfielder, Veerman is unique in terms of his quantity of goal involvements. Eight goals and a staggering 14 assists from midfield are impressive numbers, even if it is in the Dutch top flight.

Veerman's unselfishness and eye for a killer pass make him a standout star in the Eredivisie and one of the most creative midfielders in Europe. And when you look at Veerman's Percentile Comparison, it is obvious that he excels in attacking positions and is statistically one of the best creative players in Europe.

Flashscore's Team of the Season without Veerman would be like the World Cup without Brazil: very, very weird.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) 8.1

Premier League Player of the Season, Bruno Fernandes, richly deserves his place in the heart of this star-studded XI. The Portuguese magician was everywhere for Man United in the 2025/26 season, and he arguably produced his best individual season since joining.

Breaking the Premier League assist record on the final day was a testament to just how good the numbers were for Fernandes in a campaign in which he spent the first half in defensive midfield.

In that time, Fernandes still managed 14 goal contributions before being given the license to do what he does best under Michael Carrick from mid-January onwards. Fernandes added patience and discipline to his game, which makes him a better overall player to support the ridiculous numbers he produces.

Where would Man United be without their captain and star player?

Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) 8.1

Michael Olise has now had two world-class seasons in the Bundesliga after leaving Crystal Palace for one of the biggest clubs in the world. The winger was instrumental in just about everything good Bayern did in retaining the Bundesliga title, with 15 goals and 19 assists.

Vincent Kompany's side are one of the best sides in Europe from a tactical point of view, but it is individual brilliance from players like Olise that makes them the team they are - you only have to look at the Frenchman's goal catalogue to believe it.

To have an xG of just 11.5 yet score 15 goals just shows how clinical Olise is and how capable he is of scoring the spectacular.

Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) 8.1

Kylian Mbappe has been a goal machine since his move to Los Blancos and the 2025/26 season was no different. 25 goals in LaLiga and 30 total goal contributions were another impressive return from a player who gets blamed for much of the problems at Real. A trophyless season means that once again, Mbappe's goal return hasn't translated to the level of success demanded.

However, the clinical Frenchman can't do much more than keep scoring goals, and that is what you can always count on him to do.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) 8.1

Harry Kane's season was so good on all fronts that the England captain has put himself in a strong position to win the Ballon d'Or. 36 goals and 41 total goal contributions are staggering numbers from Bayern's number nine, and his 61 goals in all competitions are the best goal return in Europe's top five leagues.

Kane was scoring for fun in the 2025/26 season and all different types of goals too - put simply, he is the best in the business, and a good World Cup in the States would be the cherry on the cake of the best season in Kane's career.

Joao Felix (Al Nassr) 8.1

Joao Felix is the only player in this team to play outside of Europe after his move last summer to Al Nassr. Felix's move to Saudi Arabia has been a resounding success as the Portugal forward scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists in a standout campaign.

Felix also scored hat-tricks on three different occasions in a campaign where he outshone his international teammate and football icon Cristiano Ronaldo at times. He might not have been playing in Europe, but Joao Felix has earned his place at the table and heads to the World Cup with Portugal high in confidence.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
