Heliovaara and Patten were aiming to regain the title they won two years earlier and take their total number of Grand Slams to three, while career Slam-winner Pavic was also attempting to win a second Wimbledon crown, what would be a first for Arevalo at SW19.
As in any great final, both pairs brought the excellent form that had got them there - in the first set, only once did a game go to deuce, as both sides dominated on their own serve, while the top seeds only suffered one unforced error throughout the set.
A tiebreak was needed, something the Finn and Brit have been used to over the last fortnight, and once again they held their nerve when it mattered, forcing two losses of serve to take a 5-2 lead before closing out a 7-4 win.
Any notions that the sixth seeds would not bounce back were quickly dispelled, as once again both pairs held serve with relative ease and it was soon clear that another tiebreak would be needed to separate the duos.
But that, once again, was where the Salvadoran and Croatian suffered their undoing, losing two of their first three serves to go 5-1 down. From there, there was little way back, and Heliovaara and Patten secured the match with their second Championship point thanks to a trademark ace from the Essex man.
The win keeps the 37-year-old from Helsinki and his 30-year-old playing partner at the top of the ATP Doubles rankings, which they climbed to after losing the French Open final a month ago.
