Toronto Maple Leafs win No. 1 overall pick in 2026 NHL Draft

The Toronto Maple Leafs won the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft after their number was drawn in the lottery on Tuesday.

Toronto have only selected No. 1 overall twice in their history - 1985 (Wendel Clark) and 2016 (Auston Matthews). They finished the 2026 season with the second-worst record (32-26-14) in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Penn State's Gavin McKenna is widely expected to be the top pick in the draft.
