Kyrian Jacquet's rise has caught the eye in Asia but Luciano Darderi has plenty of reasons for confidence

Match News and Form

The late-season stretch is always a good opportunity for players looking to make a breakthrough at tour level, with many established players carrying the physical toll of a long and demanding season. This year, Kyrian Jacquet appears to be one of those players taking advantage of this phase. He achieved his breakthrough tour-level result by reaching the semifinals in Hangzhou last week, a run that also secured him the major milestone of a Top 100 debut.

The Frenchman has continued that excellent momentum in Tokyo, producing a big-name victory over the returning Holger Rune in the first round. It was a dominant performance from Jacquet, who is now in an excellent position to build further on what has already been a breakthrough Asian swing.

Luciano Darderi has been an ever-improving player on hard courts, and in recent weeks he has looked close to the top of his game on the surface, reaching the quarterfinals in Montreal and the second week of the US Open. Those results helped him return to the Top 20 of the ATP rankings, and he has made sure not to let that momentum go to waste by carrying it into the Asian swing as well, securing a straight-set victory over world No. 21 Casper Ruud to reach the second round in Tokyo for the second consecutive season.

Head to Head: 0-0

These two players have never met before.

Stats and Facts

Jacquet has won eight main-draw matches in tour-level events in his career, with four of those victories coming during this Asian swing.

He has faced Top 20 players twice in his career and lost both matches.

Luciano Darderi reached the second round in Tokyo last year before falling to Jenson Brooksby in straight sets.

Darderi has won 28 of his 40 matches against players outside the Top 50 this year.

Betting Analysis

Jacquet has plenty of momentum on his side right now and is enjoying the best phase of his career, coming off a semifinal run in Hangzhou. However, Darderi should prove too solid and consistent for him, particularly from a physical standpoint, as Jacquet is generally a physically fragile player. On top of that, the hectic schedule and increased workload of this Asian swing could leave him even more vulnerable physically.
