The 6-foot-6, 245-pound pass rusher and the ninth-ranked overall recruit ultimately chose Florida after his second visit to the campus and is now considered the top recruit in the program's 2026 class.
McCoy initially committed to LSU back in January but backed out of his commitment a month later, ultimately choosing the Gators.
According to reports by ESPN, one of the main factors that influenced McCoy's decision was the family atmosphere of the Gators football program. He was set to visit Texas a second time, but the visit was eventually canceled in place of his visit to Florida.
"They got something good going here," said McCoy. "They're trying to get the best of the best here, and around each other."
McCoy was an absolute unit the past three years at Tupelo High School down in Mississippi - racking up 144 tackles, 39.5 tackles for loss, and 17.5 sacks.
Tupelo High School went on to win the Mississippi 6A Championship after posting a 14-0 record.
Florida finished the 2024 season with a 7-5 record during the regular season and went on to win 33-8 over Tulane at the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl.
McCoy now joins quarterback Will Griffin, athlete Justin Williams, and wide receiver Marquez Daniel as the Gators' four-star recruits for 2026.
