Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (25) told reporters on Thursday that it's a 'weird feeling' when discussing the recent firing of head coach Doug Pederson (56).

Lawrence finished the 2024 season on injured reserve after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder and recovering from a concussion. The Jaguars franchise quarterback will now face a new challenge of having to play under his third head coach in five years and he's not so favorable of the situation.

"It's not ideal. Obviously, you want stability, you want consistency," said Lawrence.

Before Pederson, Lawrence played under Urban Meyer and Darrell Bevell during the 2021 season and Doug Marrone in 2020.

Pederson was the head coach of the Jaguars for the past three seasons in which they went 9-8, 9-8, and 4-13 respectively. In Pederson's first year with the team, the Jaguars won the AFC South and possessed a top-10 offence. The team ended up losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs that season.

However, the Jaguars offence took a downturn this year.

"I don't ever want to cross any boundaries and try to do more than my job," assured Lawrence in regard to talks with team owner Shad Khan about having a limited say in the new head coach search.

Lawrence hasn't finished a full season in back-to-back years, missing one game in 2023 and seven this past year. But is confident in doing what is the most important - remaining healthy.

"I do feel like I've gotten better every year," said Lawrence. "The main thing is I just gotta be healthy."

"I know the guys we have, the playmakers we have. This is a big offseason."

A big one indeed. Now is one of the best offseasons possible to hire a new, capable head coach to build a franchise with. Unfortunately, the NFL is keen on the method of one-and-done head coaches if they don't produce results right away.

Antonio Pierce, Jerod Mayo, and Nick Sorensen are just a few names who were fired after their first season with their respective teams.

The Jaguars have the fifth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and have a lot of needs they need to address outside of their head coach search.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
