Lyon were looking to make it seven H2H wins in a row against Angers, but failed to make much of an impression in a first half with few meaningful scoring opportunities.
Afonso Moreira had a half-chance in the opening exchanges, but could only muster a shot that was blocked. The only attempt on target came from Ainsley Maitland-Niles midway through the first period, which was comfortably saved by Hervé Koffi.
Les Noirs et Blancs, who scored just twice in their last six outings, did not create much in the attacking third, with Jordan Lefort’s header from a corner going over the bar. That was the best of their attacking chances in an otherwise quiet opening period.
Les Gones started the second half brightly, especially when Corentin Tolisso was afforded space at the top of the box to have a go. Unfortunately for the Lyon captain, Koffi was behind it all the way, getting two fists on the ball to make the stop.
Pavel Sulc’s attempt moments later from close range flashed wide as the visitors could not do enough to take the lead.
Moreira, who was one of the liveliest players on the pitch, managed to cut in from the left wing and have a go, but the attacker’s effort ended up in the stands.
Both teams brought on substitutes near the end, yet no one could impact the game enough to change the outcome.
Angers remain 12th in the standings despite having maintained the fifth-fewest home goals in the league with 16.
As for Lyon, they have dropped out of the Champions League spots thanks in large part to their poor run, as they have not prevailed since mid-February.
