Finland ended the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships without silverware after former medallists at this level Wilma Murto and Kristian Pulli failed to challenge for the podium in their events on the final day in Torun, Poland.

It's the first time since 2022 that Finland have has not occupied a spot on the medal table at these championships, although they were without their only medallist from 2025, Saga Vanninen, who would not be defending her pentathlon gold from Nanjing.

In the women's pole vault, former European outdoor and indoor champion Wilma Murto failed to produce her best, finishing in 11th of the 13-woman field.

The national record holder at 4.85m, Murto never truly found her rhythm, needing two attempts at her opening height of 4.35m, and then another two to clear 4.55m. The 27-year-old then had three failures at 4.70, eliminating her from the competition.

More failures overall than Germany's Jacqueline Otchere denied her a top-10 finish, while gold was taken by Molly Caudery of Great Britain, matching Murto's personal best of 4.85m. Tina Sutej cleared 4.80m to finish second, ahead of a three-way tie for bronze.

Kristian Pulli was competing for Finland in the men's long jump, returning to Torun where he had won bronze in this event in 2021, setting a national indoor record of 8.21m.

The 31-year-old made steady improvements across the competition, but he was well off his best - first registering 7.41m, then 7.61m and 7.71m with his third attempt.

However, only the top 10 would progress to jump four of six, and Pulli was down in 14th after three rounds and would not progress further. Gerson Balde of Portugal took gold with a world-leading 8.46m, clear of Mattia Furlani of Italy and Bulgaria's Bozhidar Saraboyukov.
