Brisbane Lions retained their AFL crown on Saturday with a stunning 47-point upset of Geelong Cats in front of 100,000 fans in the grand final at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
After being whipped into a frenzy by American rapper Snoop Dogg, the bumper crowd watched the hard-running Lions romp to an emphatic 18.14 (122) to 11.9 (75) victory.
Charlie Cameron and Hugh McCluggage kicked four goals apiece as the Lions produced a similar rousing underdog effort much like last year's triumph over Sydney Swans.
Brisbane cemented their status as the competition's powerhouse after appearing in their third straight grand final, a feat not achieved by any other team in the last decade.
Will Ashcroft joined Andrew McLeod (1997-98) and Dustin Martin (2019-20) as the third man to win consecutive Norm Smith Medals with a best on ground performance of 32 disposals, ten clearances and eight tackles.
"I'm so proud of this group," said Lions co-captain Lachie Neale, who overcame a calf injury having missed the Lions' previous two matches.
"Pretty speechless. That performance... when we're on, we're on."
Geelong, who won the flag in 2022, entered as favourites after comfortably defeating Brisbane in the qualifying final earlier in the month.
Both teams relish playing an aggressive style, but scoring opportunities were difficult early amid high intensity and ferocious tackling.
After several early misses on goal, Brisbane slammed three in a row early in the second quarter with Cameron nailing a superb shot deep in the right pocket.
Geelong hit back later in the term, ensuring the scores were deadlocked at half-time for the first time in a grand final since 1909.
The Lions broke the arm-wrestle with a burst of three goals deep in the third quarter and the momentum continued as they stormed to a fifth title in the club's history.
