Denmark will be handicapped by the absence of two-time Olympic champion and former World No.1 Viktor Axelsen, when Forum Horsens hosts the world championships for national teams – the Thomas Cup in April and May.

Viktor Axelsen is not part of the Danish men's badminton team, which will play the World Team Championships in Horsens at the end of April and the beginning of May.

Axelsen, who has been struggling with major back problems for a long time, is not part of the squad selected by the Danish Badminton Federation.

The previously superb World No. 1 underwent surgery last April and made a brief comeback in the fall, but the back problems returned, and Axelsen has not been on the court since the French Open in October.

Both the men's team championships, the Thomas Cup, and the women's team championships, the Uber Cup, will be played in Horsens.

In Axelsen's absence, the biggest Danish men's profiles are Anders Antonsen in singles and the doubles pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup in doubles.

There are no big surprises in the women's squad, where in-form Line Christophersen and Mia Blichfeldt spearhead the lineup.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
