The Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals are both currently the hottest teams in baseball as they're riding eight-game win streaks heading into Monday's slate of games.

But what's even more interesting about the two teams is how their starts to the season intertwined in their own fun, interesting ways to show off that only these moments could happen in baseball.

Minnesota Twins

Minnesota is now 14-5 after starting the season 7-15, reaching a winning record of 21-20 for the first time this season. And what better way to extend that streak with a walk-off in extra innings?

The Twins are now an American League-best 8-2 in their last 10 games, including back-to-back sweeps of the Baltimore Orioles and now the San Francisco Giants following a 7-6 victory on Sunday.

And the source of their success isn't their hitting - it's their pitching.

Since their hot streak began on May 3rd with a win over the Boston Red Sox, the Twins' pitching staff has the second best earned run average (ERA) at 2.22, the least amount of walks (13), the most saves (6), the sixth-least amount of hits (58), and the seventh-most strikeouts (77).

Yet, despite their surge, they still remain fourth in a tough American League Central division - sitting just five games back out of first place, which is currently held by the AL's best team in the Detroit Tigers with a 26-15 record.

The Twins are now heading to Baltimore for a three-game series starting on Tuesday, May 13th, as they take on a horrible Orioles team coming off just their second series win of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals

Over in the National League (NL), the Cardinals also own an eight-game win streak, much like the Twins, and are 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Ironically enough, the Cardinals started their season off with a sweep of the Twins before quickly going, again, ironically, 7-15 in their next 22 games.

Now, the Cards are second in the NL Central with a 22-19 record, sitting one game back of their division rival, the Chicago Cubs (23-18).

And, unlike the Twins, the Cardinals are excelling in both pitching and hitting.

Starting on May 3rd, the Cardinals have won all of their games. In that allotted timeframe, St. Louis has the sixth-best batting average (.281) and scored the sixth-most runs (44).

They are ahead of the Twins in ERA (2.00) for the best in the league and are second in saves (4) while giving up the third-fewest amount of hits (53).

Unlike the Twins, the Cardinals rank further down in strikeouts (61 - 21st) and walks given up (26 - 11th) during their win streak, but it's obvious that it plays no major role with their hitters on fire while their pitchers are giving up very few runs.

But, like the Twins, the Cardinals are coming off back-to-back sweeps and will be taking on the Philadelphia Phillies, who they beat in a three-game series earlier in the season, starting on Monday, May 12th.

Standouts For Both Teams

For St. Louis, Sonny Gray threw a seven-inning, two-hit shutout during his start while on the Cardinals' win streak. Meanwhile, teammate and other starting pitcher Erick Fedde has a 1.93 ERA in two starts during the streak, giving up just three runs through 14 innings with 12 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the entire Cardinals bullpen, outside of Phil Maton, all made at least one appearance during the win streak and have yet to give up a single run. That's eight relief pitchers out of nine that currently hold a perfect 0.00 ERA during the winning streak.

Four different hitters for the Cardinals are hitting over .300, with star third baseman Nolan Arenado leading the pack with a .407 batting average during the streak, while Willson Contreras leads the team in home runs (3) and RBI (10) and Victor Scott II is now riding an 11-game hit streak and batting .360 during the win streak.

Over in Minnesota, Bailey Ober leads the way with their starting pitching, posting a stellar 1.64 ERA in two starts, giving up just two runs and two walks in 11 innings while striking out 12 batters.

Four of the five Twins starting pitchers currently have an ERA below 3.90 during their win streak. And on the entire season, their starting rotation now holds the fifth-best ERA (3.36) while their bullpen ranks eighth (3.27).

Six of the eight Twins relievers have yet to give up a run since May 3rd, with former Orioles relief pitcher Danny Coulombe posting a 0.00 ERA in four appearances.

Coulombe is currently one of the best relief pitchers in all of baseball, having yet to give up a single run in 18 appearances this season, tossing 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched and giving up just eight hits.

Now, who will break first? How long will their streaks go for? Both teams will look to continue their winning ways in the coming week!
