The New York Yankees clinched their spot in the 2025 MLB Postseason after José Caballero hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox.

New York is now heading to the postseason for the 60th time in franchise history. The reigning American League champions have now made the postseason in eight of the last 10 years.

Caballero was acquired at the July 31st trade deadline and now he has his first-ever walk-off hit.

Now sitting at 89 wins, the Yankees have a chance to reach 90 for the fourth time in the past five years.

After starting pitcher and reigning AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil went six innings, giving up just two runs on four hits, the Yankees' bullpen through a combined three-inning shutout to finish the game.

After going down 2-1 entering the ninth inning, Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells got on base with a pair of single. Then 2025 standout Trent Grisham grounded into a double play, forcing Volpe over to third with two outs.

Aaron Judge was intentionally walked to bring up Cody Bellinger. White Sox relief pitcher Brandon Eisert threw a wild pitch to start the at-bat, which let Volpe from third to tie the game and move Judge to second.

Eisert would later walk Bellinger as well, leading to the defining moment.

Next up was Caballero, who hit Judge home with a single to centerfield.

Relief pitcher Luke Weaver earned his fourth win of the season. Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 3-for-3 with a walk, run, and stolen base. Ben Rice went 3-for-4 with three singles. Meanwhile, Volpe and Wells went a combined 4-for-8 at the bottom of the lineup.

Chicago falls to 58-99 on the year.

The series between the two teams will wrap up on Thursday before the Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles for three games, while the White Sox will head to Washington, D.C, to take on the Nationals for three games to end their season.
