San Francisco Giants and Justin Verlander agree to one-year, $15 million deal

The San Francisco Giants and starting pitcher Justin Verlander (41) have agreed to a one-year deal worth $15 million, pending physical, according to MLB insider Jeff Passan.

Verlander spent 13 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, seven years with the Houston Astros, and a brief stint with the New York Mets in 2023. 

Verlander, a future Hall of Fame pitcher, is one of the most decorated players of the past two decades. He won the AL MVP award in 2011 and is a two-time World Series champion (2017, 2022).

Verlander also won three Cy Young awards (2011, 2019, 2021), AL Rookie of the Year (2006), the Triple Crown (2011), and is a two-time ERA pitching champion, nine-time All-Star, American League Championship Series MVP (2017), a four-times AL wins leader. 

The future Hall of Famer also won Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 and has tossed three no-hitters throughout his career. He has a career 262-147 record with a 3.30 ERA. 

Verlander has also struck out 3,416 batters throughout his career, which is the 10th most in MLB history.
