When the Champions League quarter-finals come around, you know it is the business end of the season and, therefore, the most exciting part of the season. A tournament that started with 36 hopeful teams has been whittled down to eight giants, all of who can start to smell glory. So get cosy because the next two weeks is about to be an epic showdown between Europe's elite.

Wednesday, April 9th

23:08 CET - That brings an end to a thrilling two nights of action, which delivered plenty of Champions League magic.

Join us next week at the same time and place for the second legs!

22:53 CET - A big late goal from Nuno Mendes gives PSG a two-goal lead heading to Villa Park next week. An inch-perfect through ball from Ousmane Dembele is finished off smartly by Nuno Mendes, who rounded Emi Martinez before finding the top corner.

PSG were world-class tonight and they deserve the 3-1 win to break Aston Villa's hearts.

22:55 CET - All over in Barcelona, and it is a dominant win for the hosts who were just too good from minute one. It was a horror show from Dortmund, however, who are heading out of Europe unless there is a miracle next week.

22:47 CET - Dortmund have the ball in the net, but it is offside! Just not their night.

22:36 CET - An incredibly one-sided quarter-final is now Barcelona 4-0 Dortmund. The visitors have been awful tonight and that was far too easy as Barcelona hit them on the counter before Lamine Yamal stabs home a clever finish.

22:30 CET - PSG thought they had another through Achraf Hakimi, but the full-back was in an offside position.

22:24 CET - They have it now! Robert Lewandowski gets his second of the night as a shot from the edge of the box finds the bottom corner. Game and tie over?

With that goal, only Cristiano Ronaldo (67) and Lionel Messi (49) have scored more UEFA Champions League knockout stage goals than Robert Lewandowski (34 - now level with Karim Benzema), as per Opta.

22:22 CET - Barcelona are knocking on the door of a thrid goal and Fermin Lopez just came closest with a fizzed shot which clipped the post.

22:10 CET - PSG are ahead and it is another screamer! This time it is the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia show as the January signing torments Villa's defence with a darting run before somehow firing a rocket into the near post top corner from an impossible angle.

It is proving to be a brilliant piece of January business bringing Kvaratskhelia to Paris.

22:06 CET - And Barcelona waste no time to double their lead! An elegantly weighted cross towards the front post from Lamine Yamal is headed across goal brilliantly by Raphinha to give Lewandowski a simple header from close range for 2-0!

It had been coming and very much deserved.

22:05 CET - Play is back underway in both games for a massive half of football.

21:52 CET - It is also half-time in Barcelona, and the hosts will be disappointed to be only leading 1-0 after a dominant display where they created almost non-stop chances against a fragile Dortmund.

Follow the second half here.

21:50 CET - It has been the Desire Doue show in Paris as the teenage sensation has been everywhere so far and it is his goal which means PSG go into the break level. 1-1 at half-time.

Follow the second period here.

21:42 CET - It doesn't last long though as Desire Doue announces himself on the Champions League scene with an incredible strike from range which curled for what felt like an eternity before clipping the crossbar on the way in. Astonishing.

You can't say it hasn't been deserved from PSG who have been incredibly dominant.

21:36 CET - A huge shock in Paris! A sweeping counter from Aston Villa is finished off by the incredible Morgan Rogers who slid in at the back post to stun the Parc de Princes.

It was a brilliantly smart pullback from Youri Tielemans too, after a slide-through pass from Marcus Rashford - a clinical goal completely against the run of play. Incredible.

21:30 CT - The first goal of the night goes to Barcelona! And it comes from their man in this competition this season, Raphinha, who taps in on the goal line after an inviting free-kick from Fermin Lopez was flicked on inside the box.

21:10 CET - It will come as little surprise, but PSG and Barcelona have made rapid starts tonight, with Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele going close in their respective games.

21:01 CET - We are underway in Paris and Barcelona for a huge night of football!

20:46 CET - Tonight is a big night for another Englishman too, as Carney Chukwuemeka is the first English player to make his first UEFA Champions League start in the quarter-finals or at a later stage since Ryan Bertrand in the 2012 final for Chelsea, as per Opta.

20:35 CET - One player who might have a say about my prediction is Marcus Rashford who has previous with PSG in the Champions League.

Opta: Marcus Rashford has scored in each of his last three UEFA Champions League appearances against PSG, with only Neymar netting in four successive games against them in the competition.

20:30 CET - Just 30 minutes until kick-off tonight! Not like anyone was asking, but my score predictions for tonight are:

PSG 2-1 Aston Villa

Barcelona 4-1 Dortmund

20:00 CET - Over in Paris, Luis Enrique starts a young star of his own as Desire Doue gets the nod ahead of Bradley Barcola. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford starts for Aston Villa on a big night for the loanee.

19:55 CET - Team news is in! The main story coming from Barcelona is that Hansi Flick hands Fermin Lopez a big chance in the starting lineup behind top scorer Robert Lewandowski.

Follow the action here.

18:30 CET - Good evening and welcome back to our Football Tracker as we look ahead to a couple of mouthwatering quarter-final first legs!

Following Arsenal and Inter Milan's impressive displays last night, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa will all be desperate to gain a crucial advantage over the next few hours.

Hansi Flick's quadruple-chasing Barcelona side are on a 22-game unbeaten run across all competitions and one of the favourites for the Champions League trophy, however, last season's runners-up, Dortmund, will be sure to provide a stern test of their credentials.

Read our in-depth analysis of Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund here.

In tonight's other quarter-final, Paris Saint-Germain - fresh from claiming their 13th Ligue 1 crown over the weekend - take on Aston Villa, a side managed by former boss Unai Emery.

The French giants will be hoping their long wait for an elusive Champions League crown comes to an end this season, while Villa are back in the last eight of Europe's premier competition for the first time since 1983.

Tuesday, April 8th

22:58 CET - If Inter have one foot in the semis, then Arsenal have one and a half after a stunning 3-0 win against the holders. A special night at the Emirates. One of those games fans will be playing back for years to come.

Real will also be without Eduardo Camavinga for the second leg after he received a second yellow for kicking the ball away in added time. Silly.

22:55 CET - That goal would prove to be a crucial one as Inter take a 2-1 lead back to the San Siro and have one foot in the semi-finals.

22:48 CET - The celebrations don't last long, though, as Inter restore their lead through ever goal threat Davide Frattesi, who taps in a fizzed crossed across goal. 2-1.

22:45 CET - Bayern are back in it and it is fitting that departing legend Thomas Muller is the man to equalise.

Game on in Munich.

22:35 CET - This is barely believable but Arsenal are beating Real Madrid 3-0! This time from open play as Mikel Merino finds the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Was he made to be a number nine all this time? Beautiful finish.

Arsenal are now in dreamland as the Emirates explodes into a carphony of noise.

22:31 CET - I can't believe I am typing this, but Declan Rice has just curled another free-kick, this time even more into the top corner! I can't speak. Goosebumps.

Arsenal are now leading the holders 2-0 and Rice has stolen the show in the most unlikely of fashions - incredible.

22:27 CET - Arsenal are really pushing for a second here! They would be 2-0 up too if it wasn't for the cat-like reflexes from Thibaut Courtois in goal who just made an incredible double save.

22:20 CET - What a goal from Declan Rice! A dangerous run from Saka ends when he is brought down and awarded a free-kick. Up steps up Rice who curls a free-kick sensationally into the top corner - that was special.

It will go down as one of the great goals at the Emirates.

22:05 CET - Both games are back underway for a big second half of UCL action!

21:48 CET - That goal would be the last major talking point of the first half from the two quarter-finals.

21:40 CET - The first goal of the night comes from Munich and goes to Inter!

It is a brilliant team goal as a quick passing move is finished off by Lautaro Martinez with an audacious finish with the outside of his foot into the top corner after a clever flick from his strike partner, Marcus Thuram

It has taken a while but that goal was worth the wait - pure art.

21:34 CET - And now Kylian Mbappe has gone close for Real on the counter. Mbappe was too quick for the Arsenal defence, but as he opened up his body to a curl a shot, his effort was tame and easily saved.

21:28 CET - Over in Munich and it is Bayern asking most of the questions. Harry Kane just came the closest as his strike struck the post - a goal feels close.

21:20 CET - Still goalless in both games, but you feel Arsenal might be close to getting the first goal of the night as they are putting Real under relentless pressure.

21:05 CET - An electric start at the Emirates has seen chances for both sides as a precedent is set for a thrilling night.

The Emirates is buzzing.

21:00 CET - Play is underway in both games! This should be fun.

20:57 CET - The teams are walking out in London and Munich. The Champions League music is playing. It is time.

20:40 CET - Bukayo Saka returning to the starting lineup is a huge boost for the hosts, and his record in this competition speaks for itself.

Opta insight:

Bukayo Saka has had a hand in 14 goals in 14 UEFA Champions League appearances (8 goals, 6 assists), including 11 goal involvements in seven games at the Emirates (7 goals, 4 assists).

The Englishman has scored in all but one of his seven home appearances in the competition (vs Porto in last season’s last 16).

20:00 CET - Team news is in from Munich too as both sides name strong teams:

19:54 CET - Arsenal's team news is now in too as Bukayo Saka gets his first start on his return from injury:

19:20 CET - We have some early teams to bring you as Real Madrid have released their line-up early as per normal from Carlo Ancelotti.

It is a frightening strong side captained by veteran Luka Modric

19:00 CET - Hello and welcome back to our coverage of the Champions League! Are you ready for some blockbuster quarter-final first legs?

The quarters have been separated into two matches tonight and two tomorrow. The two tonight sees four historical European giants in action as Arsenal host Real Madrid and Inter Milan travel to Munich to face Bayern

Follow both blockbuster clashes with Flashscore.

Whilst this is unfamiliar territory for Arsenal, it is the norm for their opponents Real Madrid, and anything less than reaching another final will be a disappointment.

Considering Arsenal are all but out of the Premier League title race though, tonight feels more important to the Gunners than Los Blancos, who still have two domestic trophies to fight for.

As for the game in Munich, both sides are used to the big occasion but Inter have more recent success in this competition having reached the final in the 2022/23 season.

Simone Inzaghi's side are one of Europe's best teams for a reason: they dominate games, are defensively solid, and their attacking wing-backs create an abundance of chances for the two strikers.

Vincent Kompany's Bayern have more weaknesses defensively but they are top of the Bundesliga because they are formidable going forward. Inter and Real will be the favourites but as we know, in this great competition, anything can happen.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
