The Cincinnati Reds acquired third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade deal on Wednesday.

In return, the Pirates received prospect (SS) Sammy Stafura and (P) Taylor Rogers.

The 28-year-old Hayes is one of the best defensive infielders in all of baseball. His .986 fielding percentage is the second best among third basemen (80 games minimum), just behind notorious multiple Gold Glove-winner Nolan Arenado (.988).

Hayes' 210 assists lead all third basemen while his 66 putouts rank third. He's slashing .236/.279/.290 at the plate with two home runs, 36 RBI, and 10 stolen bases.

Cincinnati beefs up their defence in a major way with Hayes on a team that currently holds a 56-52 record on the year, standing in third place in the National League Central division.

Hayes also has five years of club control through the next five seasons.

Stafura was the Cincinnati Reds' No. 9 overall prospect. He's currently slashing .262/.393/.411 on the year in Single-A with four home runs, 48 RBI, and 28 stolen bases.

The 20-year-old and former second-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft will now be a future prospect that Pirates fans will want to keep an eye out for.

Rogers, on the other hand, is a 34-year-old lefty reliever who was having a solid year for the Reds, tossing a 2.45 earned run average in 40 games. The veteran is set to be a free agent at the end of the year.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
