Curling player Jasmin Holtermann, who was part of Denmark's team at the Winter Olympics, has ended her career with immediate effect.

"I can feel that I am ready to try something new in life", says 26-year-old Holtermann to TV2 Sport after her 12-year career in curling.

It is only ten days since Denmark's Olympic adventure at the women's curling tournament ended before the semi-finals after a defeat to Switzerland.

It is not yet known where the decision leaves Denmark's women's curling team, with only a few weeks left to go before the World Championships.

Skipper Madeleine Dupont writes in an SMS to the media that it does not change anything for the rest of the team. The remaining players hope they can make ends meet financially so they can still play at top level.

Jasmin Holtermann shared her thoughts about the career break with the rest of the team several months before the Olympics. She says that she needs to get more space in her calendar in a busy everyday life, as you can't make a living playing curling in Denmark.

It has been difficult for her to balance work with her curling career after she graduated. Madeleine Dupont and the rest of the team tried to persuade Holtermann to continue her career, but did not succeed.

In addition to Madeleine Dupont and Jasmin Holtermann, Denmark's Olympic team consisted of Denise Dupont, Mathilde Halse, and My Larsen.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
