Mads Pedersen suffered a broken left wrist and right collarbone after crashing on the first stage of the Volta Comunitat Valenciana. Pedersen will undergo surgery for his broken collarbone on Thursday. This was announced by the Danes' team, Lidl-Trek, on Wednesday evening.

"The team's first priority is to ensure that Mads receives the best possible treatment, and the immediate focus will be on a successful recovery to minimize disruption to his season goals", the team writes and states that time will tell when Mads Pedersen can return to cycling.

It is thus unknown how the injuries will affect Pedersen's schedule in the spring.
