The first Ashes Test (day two) - 03:20 CET

In cricket, there simply is no bigger Test series than the Ashes. Ok, maybe some Indian fans will be rolling their eyes at that, but England vs Australia is arguably the most storied rivalry in the game, and it is literally the oldest.

Every two years, these fierce foes face off in five gruelling encounters, but this time, it feels really significant. That's not just because these sides played out a gripping drawn series back in 2023 (2-2 in England), but because the build-up to this one has been going on… well, since the last ended.

Ben Stokes’ swashbuckling ‘Bazballers’ made it their stated aim to go to Australia this year and reclaim that mythic little urn by attaining what would be England’s first series win down under in over a decade. Everything has been about this series for them: the players they’ve blooded, their fitness plans, their approach to the game.

For Australia, since narrowly retaining the Ashes in ’23, their ageing gang have just about hung around at the top with their own firm eye on this series. They have no intentions of giving up the title-holders tag they’ve held since 2018 easily, but they ran into some serious issues in the lead-up to the opener, losing both captain Pat Cummins and key bowler Josh Hazlewood to injuries.

And to the present, the first Test is already a day old, and the key takeaway is: it won’t be going the full five. England capitulated for 172, with Mitchell Starc claiming a career-best seven-for, but then went on to claim nine wickets of their own to leave Australia reeling at 123/9, shellshocked and trailing by 49 runs at stumps.

England’s batters may have looked reckless at times, but their pace arsenal looked utterly destructive and duly tipped the match back in their favour. If last year’s Test against India at the same venue is anything to go by, batting will get easier on the Perth Stadium wicket from day two onwards, but time will tell who makes the most of that.

One thing is for sure: this series is going to showcase some of the best Test cricket of the year, so you won’t want to miss whatever twists and turns come next. Oh, and don’t forget to tune in for Saturday’s second day because there’s no guarantee this match is even making it past the weekend!

Las Vegas Grand Prix - 05:00 CET

With just three races left in the 2025 season, it is crunch time in the World Championship as Formula 1 heads to Las Vegas. Lando Norris goes into the weekend as the championship leader, but with teammate Oscar Piastri still in the race and Max Verstappen not down and out just yet, there is plenty to get excited about heading into the weekend.

Norris heads to the night lights of Vegas with a 24-point lead over Piastri after taking control of a championship which looked almost out of sight at times in 2025.

Verstappen, meanwhile, is 49 points back and is only still in the discussion because of who he is. The four-time world champion not only needs to win the 50-lap race on Sunday, but he needs DNFs from title rivals Norris and Piastri just to keep the hope alive. It is a long shot that is out of the Dutchman's hands, but in a season that has often gone off script, it is not impossible.

Verstappen can only focus on what he is in control of, and that is putting his Red Bull on pole before picking up maximum points in the race. Considering McLaren are expected to have struggled for their usual pace in Vegas and Verstappen’s excellent street race record, it is there for the taking, too.

Whatever unfolds on Sunday night, with so few races left in what has been a gripping championship battle, this is a race that simply can’t be missed. Too much remains at stake.

Davis Cup Finals final - 16:00 CET

All eyes in the world of tennis will be on Bologna this weekend, where Italy are looking to become the first country to win the Davis Cup - the World Cup of tennis - for a third time in a row since the USA won their fourth in 1972.

They entered the finals without star man Jannik Sinner, but Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli have very much stepped up to the plate, with both winning each of their matches to see off Austria and Belgium. However, they’re sure to face their biggest test yet in the final.

They could go up against a German team led by world number three Alexander Zverev, who will be desperate to salvage what has been a largely disappointing year by winning his nation their first Davis Cup since 1993. If he can do so, adding it to his collection of ATP Finals and Masters 1000 trophies and an Olympic gold, a Grand Slam would be the only major honour he’d be lacking.

First though, he and his compatriots will have to see off a Spain side that knocked out a heavyweight Czech lineup, with Jaume Munar stunning Jiri Lehecka before Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez edged Jakub Mensik and Tomas Machac in an epic doubles decider. That showed that, even without Carlos Alcaraz, they’re a force to be reckoned with.

And while some may rue the absences of Sinner and Alcaraz, the fact that it’s guaranteed to be a final without any singles Grand Slam winners ups the stakes if anything, making it certain that Sunday will be a career highlight for multiple players regardless of the outcome.

North London derby - 17:30 CET

One of the most exciting clashes of every Premier League season, North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs go head-to-head in a crucial clash this Sunday.

Arsenal have had a superb start to the campaign, sitting at the summit of the table with a four-point gap to their nearest rivals. However, they head into the meeting following a 2-2 draw at Sunderland, which halted some of their momentum

Additionally, they are suffering a bit of an injury crisis. Centre back Gabriel Magalhaes picked up a thigh issue on international duty with Brazil, and is reportedly out for at least four weeks. The status of players such as Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke also remains unknown.

Meanwhile, despite being fifth in the Premier League, things haven’t been great recently for Spurs and Thomas Frank. A draw against Manchester United and a dismal home loss to Chelsea have raised question marks over the manager’s style of play.

Yet they are still in a good position in the table, and a positive result this weekend could spin the narrative quickly. And they will certainly be desperate to put a spanner in the works of Arsenal’s title charge.

The Emirates Stadium will be rocking, and it's sure to be a typically feisty encounter.

Milan derby - 20:45 CET

There is no bigger match in world football this weekend than the Derby della Madonnina, the Milan Derby. In what will be the 245th all-time meeting between these storied clubs, one could not have asked for a match with higher stakes.

Since a 3-1 reverse to Napoli at the end of October, Inter have won their last four across all competitions, including three in the league. Despite having already lost thrice thus far, the Nerazzurri currently sit top of the table on goal difference. It is still a close race, though, with the top six clubs separated by just five points.

Milan have been able to focus solely on domestic football this term after missing out on Europe. Massimiliano Allegri's men have just one defeat to their name this term, the fewest in the league. That came in their opening game in a shock home reverse against Cremonese. Since then, it has been 11 without a loss for the Rossoneri (7-4-0), though they have drawn four of their last six.

It was Milan who had the upper hand when the sides met last season, going unbeaten across all five fixtures (3-2-0). That includes a 3-0 thumping over their fiercest rivals in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. Before the 2024/25 season, it was all Inter, as they had won six consecutive derbies.

Be sure to tune in on Sunday night for this top-of-the-table clash, where three points could go a very long way for both teams in their pursuit of the Scudetto.
