Aalborg Handball will be handicapped by the absence of the 35-year old Patrick Wiesmach for at least nine months as he is set to undergo surgery for a shoulder injury.

35-year-old Wiesmach suffered a shoulder injury in the Champions League victory over Kolstad Handball on 8 October after an accidental collision.

Wiesmach left the match immediately and has since then been excluded from both matches and training, while several medical examinations have been conducted to clarify the injury and its extent.

Now scans have unfortunately revealed that the shoulder damage is more extensive than first thought, which is why the experienced winger now has to undergo surgery and a subsequent rehabilitation period of up to nine months.

"It is, of course, a shame that Patrick has gotten off to such a bad start. We had hoped for better news, but now have to deal with it as it is. Patrick is an experienced gentleman with an important role in the team, but in his absence, we currently expect to solve the challenge by using Kristian Bjornsen more, just as it is not inconceivable that both Mads Hoxer and Patrick Helland Anderson can substitute in his place", says team manager Martin Larsen.

Patrick Wiesmach is naturally disappointed by the injury, which will sideline him for an extended period.

"The goal I have set for myself is that I want to get back on the court when we approach the part of the season where things come to a head. It is a good motivation for me to have during the rehabilitation period", says Wiesmach, who has played 260 matches and scored 839 goals for Aalborg.
