Coach of the Norwegian men's national handball team, Jonas Wille, will not get his contract extended when it runs out on 1 July after a string of disappointing results.

Most recently, Norway ended in 9th place at the European Championships in January, which was the latest disappointment in a string of poor results in recent years. Wille was hired in the summer of 2022. The association is now starting to find a replacement, it says.

"The handball boys have taken important steps under Jonas' leadership, even if it is not reflected in the results list from the most recent championships."

"When the board has nevertheless decided not to extend the contract, it is ultimately about us believing that there are other candidates who will strengthen the chances for the team to pick up the last margins in the coming years. That is why the association wants to change the national coach from next season, explains the association's president Randi Gustad in a press release.
