Only an hour after the 13-goal defeat against Team Esbjerg in the Danish domestic women's handball league, Kvindeligaen, on Thursday evening, did Ikast Handball choose to sack coach Soren Hansen.

As the first challenger to Team Esbjerg and Odense at the top of Danish women's handball, a defeat of 13 goals at home to Esbjerg was too much to handle for Ikast, who chose to sack coach Soren Hansen only an hour after the game was finished.

Ikast Handball announced the news on their website in the wake of the embarrassing defeat.

"We don't feel we have exploited the potential which the squad contains, and this has spread to a lack of expression", says director Daniel Grønhoej to the club's website.

"We have been happy and satisfied with the collaboration with Soren Hansen and cannot fault his personality, professionalism, and commitment."

Assistant coach Claus Mogensen takes over as interim head coach in the first instance.

He has a lot of experience in that role, and he was most recently the coach of Horsens until last autumn. He also has a past in Copenhagen Handball, SK Aarhus, and Skanderborg, among others. Alongside his job in Ikast, he is the national team coach for the Faroe Islands women's national team.

He will make his debut on Sunday in the Champions League, when Ikast pays host to Podravka Vegeta from Croatia.
