Reigning champions Denmark maintained their perfect record in the World Cup tournament when they cruised past Italy with a scoreline of 39-20 for their third win when the two nations clashed in Herning Saturday night.

After two straight wins, Italy looked confident early in the game and held on to 4-4 before the Danes started to demonstrate their true quality and Emil Nielsen, who had a 50 save % in the first half, began to shut up shop.

By half-time, Denmark’s lead reached double digits, so Italy needed a miracle to avoid a defeat but the Danish began the second half on a bad note when Magnus Landin was shown the red card  through a rough challenge on Simone Mengon.

Italy netted twice to reduce the deficit to 10-18 before the match again turned into men against boys as some of the Danish players continued to shine in the second half, with Jakobsen and Simon Pytlick finishing the game with nine goals each.

Denmark in the end cruised to a 19-goal win and will start the main round with four points.

Also France stayed unbeaten with a 35-27 win against Austria and will head into the main round with four points. Despite initial problems Sweden overpowered Chile with 42-30 while Qatar clinched a main round spot with a 25-22 win over Kuwait.

Finally Iceland ran riot with a 40-19 win against Cuba while Tunesia had to battle hard to earn a 26-25 win against Northern African rivals Algeria.
