The 45-year-old handball goalkeeper legend, Katrine Lunde, will bring down the curtain on her international career when she takes part in her 25th final tournament in the upcoming World Championships set to begin next week.

"After careful consideration, I have decided that the 2025 World Championship will be my last championship with Norway", says the national team goalkeeper.

"My goal and hope is to contribute to making my last championship unforgettable", she says in a press release from the Norwegian Handball Federation, and adds:

"I have no plans for a further club career for the time being. Now I am fully focused on the championship. But I have not played my last handball match. If the coaching team wishes, I have said that I am available in the spring of 2026, but not for a new championship."

Katrine Lunde's national team debut came in September 2002, more than 23 years ago. It says a lot about the longevity of her career that the opponent in the first international match was a country that no longer exists (Yugoslavia).

Her sporting achievements include gold medals with the Norwegian national team at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships, as well as club victories in the EHF Champions League and national championships in Denmark, Hungary, Russia, and Norway.
