Team Esbjerg says in a press release that Swiss profile Tabea Schmid will be ruled out for an extensive period after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury during the World Championships.

Team Esbjerg will be handicapped by the absence of Tabea Schmid in the foreseeable future as the Swiss star player suffered a serious injury during the game against Romania at the World Championships.

The subsequent MRI scan shows that the anterior cruciate ligament is torn, the internal ligament is torn and there is damage to the internal meniscus, says the Danish club.

Schmid is now set to undergo surgery and long-term rehabilitation before she can return to the handball arena.

Team Esbjerg is following the situation together with the Swiss Handball Federation and is collaborating to help Tabea return as soon as possible and is supporting her throughout the process.
